Matt Dempsey (Assistant Principal Trumpet - Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra)
sshhmute artist Matt Dempsey grew up in Sydney, Australia, and began playing trumpet at age 7 in the Hornsby Concert Band, and the 'Golden Kangaroos' Marching Band. He went on to attend the Sydney Conservatorium, attaining both a Diploma of Music and Bachelor of Music (Performance), studying trumpet with Paul Goodchild, Andrew Evans, and Daniel Mendelow.
Previously, Matt has held permanent positions as 2nd Trumpet with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Principal Trumpet of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. He worked temporarily as Associate Principal Trumpet with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, before moving to Kuala Lumpur in 2018 to take up his current position as Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
He has performed with both the Sydney & Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's, and as Guest Principal Trumpet with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonic (New Zealand), Opera Australia Orchestra (Sydney), Orchestra Victoria (Melbourne), Singapore Symphony Orchestra, and Jakarta Sinfonia Orchestra.
Matt also holds a Diploma of Education, and has taught trumpet at the University of Adelaide, the University of Western Australia, and at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
