From an early age, Kyle Lawson was mentored by esteemed New Zealand cornetist Kevin Jarrett and quickly emerged as one of the most gifted young brass musicians of his generation.

In 2010, he was awarded the Adrienne, Lady Stewart Performance Bursary, and the following year was appointed Principal Cornet of the National Youth Brass Band of New Zealand. He went on to serve as Co-Principal Cornet of the National Australian Brass Youth Band in 2013 and 2014.

Kyle's early solo achievements include winning the New Zealand Junior Champion of Champions title in 2010, the New Zealand Amateur Cornet title in 2011, the New Zealand Cornet Championship title in 2013 & 2014, and the Australian Champion Cornet title (2014).

A member of the prestigious New Zealand Army Band since 2012, Kyle has performed at notable international events including Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee in London (2012), the Basil Tattoo in Switzerland (2012), the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (2013), and the Lucerne Tattoo (2014).

In 2015, Kyle was appointed Principal Cornet of the world-renowned Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band in England, a position he held until returning to the New Zealand Army Band in 2016. He later returned to the UK in 2018 to complete a Bachelor of Musical Arts at the University of Salford, graduating with First Class Honours. During this time, he was once again appointed Principal Cornet of Brighouse and Rastrick.

He continues to benefit from the mentorship and guidance of renowned conductor and educator Professor David King, whose support has been instrumental in Kyle's ongoing development and success.

He gracefully acknowledges the enduring support of New Zealand arts patron Dame Adrienne Stewart.
