Emily Evans

Emily Evans began playing the cornet at the age of three before switching to the tenor horn at the age of seven. Growing up in Cornwall, she played in brass bands with the rest of her family, including the Porthleven Town Band, St. Keverne Band, and the Lanner & District Silver Band, before moving to Cardiff to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music in 2014, under the tuition of Owen Farr.

Emily was a member of both the National Children's Brass Band and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, becoming Principal Tenor Horn in both bands. During her time with the NYBBGB, Emily was fortunate enough to play at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall.

Whilst at RWCMD, Emily won the Harry Mortimer Award at the British Open Championships, and as a member of a quartet, won the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble competition and the McGrenery Chamber Prize.

Emily was the Solo Horn of the Tongwynlais Band in Cardiff for three years before joining the Flowers Band in 2017. Whilst in Tongwynlais, Emily won the award of the 'Best Soloist' at the Welsh Open in 2017.

Since graduating from college, Emily has travelled with the Orchestra Revolutionnaire to London, New York and Paris to play saxhorn as part of their Berlioz tour. She was also the recipient of the 'Best Tenor Horn' award at the Brass in Concert 2018 and the 'Best Soloist' prize at the Butlins Mineworkers Competition in 2019.

Emily has also enjoyed being a tutor for the Gloucestershire Youth Brass Band, and the North American Brass Band Summer School in Canada, where she has had the privilege of performing at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo.
